বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট দলের ওয়ানডে অধিনায়ক; তবে ক্রিকেটের সীমানা ছাড়িয়েছেন তিনি অনেক আগেই। জীবনের অনেক ক্ষেত্রেই কোটি কোটি মানুষের অনুপ্রেরণার নিরন্তর উৎস মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজা। জীবনের পথচলায় তার ৩৩ পূর্ণ হলো ৫ অক্টোবর। দুই বছর আগে একই দিনে পৃথিবীর আলোয় এসেছে তার দ্বিতীয় সন্তান। জন্মবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষেই সময় দিলেন বিডিনিউজ টোয়েন্টিফোর ডটকমকে। দীর্ঘ আড্ডায় মাঠের ক্রিকেট থাকল কমই। উঠে এল মাশরাফির জীবনবোধ, মূল্যবোধ, পরিবার-সমাজ ও চারপাশের নানা বাস্তবতা নিয়ে তার ভাবনা।

৩৩ বছর কেটেই গেল, কথা রাখেনি কজন?

মাশরাফি বিন মুর্তজা: সুনীলের এই কবিতা আমি জীবনে অসংখ্যবার শুনেছি। তবে পড়িনি। হয়ত পড়িনি বলেই সবাই কথা রেখেছে!

বয়স বাড়ছে না কমছে?

মাশরাফি: সিরিয়াস হয়ে বলতে গেলে, দুটিই তো হচ্ছে। মৃত্যুর কথা ভাবলে বয়স কমছে। আমরা সবাই প্রতিদিন মৃত্যুর দিকে এগোচ্ছি। আর ম্যাচিউরিটির কথা বললে বয়স বাড়ছে।

আসলে বিভিন্ন জায়গায় আমার বয়স একেক রকম। খেলার মাঠে এক রকম, পরিবারে এক রকম, বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে এক রকম, সব জায়গায় অ্যাডজাস্ট করার চেষ্টা করি। বাসায় যেমন হওয়া উচিত, আমি সে রকমই। মাঠে সিনিয়র-জুনিয়র আলাদা করি না, সবার সঙ্গে এক রকম। আবার অধিনায়কের দায়িত্বটুকু তো পালন করতেই হয়। বন্ধুদের কাছে আমি বাঁধনহারা। ওখানে ৩-৪ ব্যাচ ছোট বা বড়, আমরা সবাই এক।

কখনোই হইচই করে জন্মদিন পালন করেন না, কেক কাটেন না। কেন?

মাশরাফি: নানা বাড়িতে বড় হয়েছি। আমার প্রথম জন্মদিন কিন্তু ধুমধাম করেই পালন করেছিলেন আমার মা। নানা শুধু দেখেছেন। অনুষ্ঠান সব শেষ হওয়ার পর নানা ডেকে মাকে বললেন, ‘ধরো তোমার ছেলে যদি ৭০ বছর বাঁচে, তাহলে ওর বয়স কমছে না বাড়ছে?’। মা মাথা নীচু করে বললেন, ‘কমছে।’ নানা তখন বললেন, ‘তাহলে এভাবে উৎসব না করে গরীব-দু:খীদের খাওয়াতে পারো, নফল নামাজ পড়তে পারো।”

আম্মা হয়ত তারপর সেটাই আঁকড়ে আছেন। আমার বোধ হওয়ার পর দেখিনি আমার পরিবারে কারও জন্মদিন উৎসব করে পালন করা হয়েছে। উইশ করা বা এ ধরনের কিছু তো হয়ই। তবে পালন করা হয় না। আমিও ছেলেমেয়েদের জন্মদিনে কেক কাটি না বা পালন করি না। হয়ত ঘুরতে যাই ওদের নিয়ে বা একসঙ্গে সময় কাটাই।

তার মানে এই নয় যে যারা পালন করে, তারা ঠিক করে না। সবার নিজস্ব ব্যাপার। আমার মায়ের ভাবনাকে সম্মান করে আমি, আমাদের পরিবারে পালন করি না। এই তো।

পেছন ফিরে তাকালে, কি মনে হয়, জীবনটা কেমন কাটলো?

মাশরাফি: জীবন নিয়ে আমি খুবই তৃ্প্ত। আমার তেমন কোনো আফসোস নেই। বিখ্যাত কে একজন বলেছিলেন না, ‘হয়ত এখন আমি অনেক বিখ্যাত, কিন্তু আমি আনন্দ পাই আমার শৈশবের দুষ্টুমিগুলো থেকে।’ আমারও সে রকমই। জীবনের বেশিরভাগ সময় আমার যেটা মন চেয়েছে, সেটাই করেছি। বন্ধু, পরিবারের সঙ্গে দারুণ সময় কাটিয়েছি। আমার আক্ষেপ নেই।

দেশের মাটিতে ২০১১ বিশ্বকাপ খেলতে না পারা বা ইনজুরি, এমন অনেক খারাপ সময় গেছে। মাঠের বাইরেও খারাপ সময় এসেছে সময়ের স্রোতে সেসব চলেও গেছে। আমি আফসোস করি না।

জীবনের অর্থ আপনার কাছে কি?

মাশরাফি: সিম্পলি বললে, আমার কাছে জীবন মানে ঠিকভাবে বেঁচে থাকা। মূল্যবোধ ঠিক রাখা। আমাদের দেশে সমালোচনা করতে বা বিষয়বস্তু হয়ে উঠতে সময় লাগে না। অনেক ভেবেছি সেসব নিয়ে। এখন আর ভাবি না। লাভ নেই।

জীবনের অর্থ আমার কাছে সিম্পল চলা। জীবন তো ক্ষণস্থায়ী। কারও সঙ্গে ঝামেলা না বাধানো। সবার সঙ্গে ভালো সম্পর্ক রাখা, কারও ক্ষতি না করা। কেউ যদি এক্সট্রা অর্ডিনারিভাবে চলতে চায়, সেটা তার ব্যাপার। হয়ত সেটার মাঝেই সে সিম্পপ্লিসিটি খুঁজে নিয়েছে। আমি আমার মতো সিম্পল।

আর পরিবার মানে?

মাশরাফি: পরিবারই সব কিছু। ক্রিকেট ইজ জাস্ট আ গেম। শুরু বলুন আর শেষ, সবই পরিবার। এটি সীমানাহীন, অর্থ বের করা যাবে না।

সংবাদ সম্মেলনে আপনি একবার বলেছিলেন, ক্রিকেটের চ্যালেঞ্জ কিছুই না, সন্তান দুটিকে মানুষ করাই আসল চ্যালেঞ্জ…

মাশরাফি: দেখুন, আমার ৩৩ হয়ে গেল। আর চাওয়ার কি আছে? প্রথমবার বাবা হলাম যখন, হুমায়রা এলো পৃথিবীতে, আমার তখন ২৮ বছর। তখনই প্রথম অনুভব করতে পেরেছি, আমার আর কি-ই বা আছে! খেলছি দেশের জন্য, যত দিন খেলব সর্বোচ্চটা উজার করে দেব। এই তো। কিন্তু আমার পরিবার, পরের প্রজন্ম যেন ভালোভাবে চলতে পারে, সেটা বড় ভাবনা।

তার মানে এই না যে ওদের জন্য অনেক সম্পদ, অর্থ রেখে যেতে হবে। মূল ব্যাপার হলো, ওরা যেন মূল্যবোধ নিয়ে বাঁচতে পারে। চাই ওরা ভালো জীবন কাটাক; অন্যায়ে যেন না জড়ায় কখনও। আর্থিক কষ্টে থাকলেও যেন সম্মান নিয়ে ঠিকভাবে থাকতে পারে, মাথা উঁচু করে থাকতে পারে।

এই জীবনবোধ কি বয়স বাড়ার সঙ্গে এসেছে নাকি বরাবরই ছিল?

মাশরাফি: ছোট থেকেই আমি এভাবে জীবন কাটাতে, ভাবতে পছন্দ করি। আমার নানা সেই পাকিস্তান আমলে ঢাকা বোর্ডে প্রথম স্ট্যান্ড করেছিলেন। দাদা মারা যাওয়ার পর কঠিন বাস্তবতায় আমার বাবা ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে সুযোগ পেয়েও পড়তে পারলেন না। আমার পরিবারে আরও ১০-১২ জন স্ট্যান্ড করা স্টুডেন্ট। এসব বলছি যে, এত কিছুর পরও আমি সব সময়ই সবাইকে দেখেছি সিম্পল থাকতে। আশেপাশেও দেখেছি বড় বড় মানুষ সবাই মাটির মানুষ হয়ে থেকেছে।

আমিও ক্রমে এই জীবনটার মাঝে ডুবে গেছি। এভাবেই জীবন কাটাতে চেয়েছি। আমার মনে হয়, সিম্পল থাকলে সবার সঙ্গে মেশা যায়। এই লাইফটা আমার পছন্দ।

চড়াই-উৎরাইয়ের পথচলায় আপনার স্ত্রীর অবদান তো অবশ্যই অনেক। তার কথা উঠে আসে সামান্যই!

মাশরাফি: সত্যিকার অর্থে সংসারটা সেই সামলায়। বাসায়, ঘরের সব কিছু তার হাতে গড়া। বাচ্চা-কাচ্চা, সংসার নিয়ে ব্যস্ত থাকে। মাঠ, খেলা এসব নিয়ে আগ্রহ তার খুব একটা নেই। হয়ত আমার সঙ্গে সব জায়গায় যায় না। এজন্য লোকে জানে কম।

এমনিতে আমাকে নিয়ে তো কনসার্ন আছেই। আমাকে যতটুকু সম্ভব হেল্প করে। সম্পর্কের গাঁথুনিটা অনেক সময় এভাবে বোঝা যায় যে, দূরে থাকলেও পাশে অনুভব করা যায়। ওর ব্যাপারে আমি সেটা পাই।

হতে পারে ইচ্ছে করেই ক্রিকেট নিয়ে কম আগ্রহ দেখায়। অনেক সময় আবার নিজ থেকেই বলে। সবসময় পজিটিভ কথাই বলে।

আপনার কঠিন সময়গুলো তিনি কিভাবে সামলান?

মাশরাফি: বুঝতে দেয় না আমাকে। সুমি মানসিকভাবে অনেক শক্ত। আমাদের প্রথম সন্তান হওয়ার সময় ও যখন, ক্লিনিকালি ডেড পর্যায়ে চলে যাচ্ছে, ডাক্তার কেন জানি ওকে বলে ফেলেছিল যে ‘আপনার সন্তান বাঁচবে, তবে আপনাকে হয়ত বাঁচাতে পারব না।’ আমি তখন ব্লাড নিয়ে মাত্র এসেছি। ও আমার হাত ধরে বললো, ‘কোনো ভুল করে থাকলে ক্ষমা করে দিও।’ আমি সমানে কাঁদছি। কিন্তু ও এতটা নরম্যালি, এতটা স্থির থেকে বলল, তখন বুঝেছি ও কতটা শক্ত। সবাই বলে আমি মানসিকভাবে শক্ত। সুমি আমার চেয়ে তিনগুণ বেশি শক্ত।

আমার খেলা থাকলে, ওর যত বড় অসুখই হোক, যত সমস্যা হোক, জানায় না কখনোই। বাচ্চাদের খুব বড় কোনো সমস্যা হলেই কেবল জানায়। আর সব নিজেই সামলায়।

জনপ্রিয়তাকে কিভাবে দেখেন?

মাশরাফি: কোনো ভাবেই দেখি না। কারণ আমি এসব নিয়ে ভাবিই না। আমি অতটা শিক্ষিত নই, তবে একটা ব্যাপার সব সময় মানার চেষ্টা করি। ছেলেবেলায় একবার এক শিক্ষকের সঙ্গে অন্যায় করে ফেলেছিলাম। স্যার তখন বলেছিলেন, ‘আমি তোমাকে ভালো জানি, আমার কাছে খারাপ হয়ো না। ভালো হতে সময় লাগে, খারাপ হতে সময় লাগে না।” এটা আজীবনের জন্য আমার মাথায় গেঁথে গেছে। যাদের কাছে আমি ভালো, তাদের কাছে অন্তত খারাপ হতে চাই না।

তবু কি মনে হয়, নিজেকে, সবাইকে ছাড়িয়ে যাচ্ছেন?

মাশরাফি: আমি কখনোই সেভাবে অনুভব করি না। বিশ্বাস করেন, আমার কাছে সাকিবের উচ্চতা আমার চেয়ে অনেক বেশি। তামিম, মুশফিক, রিয়াদের উচ্চতা বেশি। এমন নয় যে বলার জন্য বলছি, সত্যিই অনুভব করি। ওদেরকে সব সময় আমি অন্য জায়গায় রাখি।

কিন্তু এই যে লোকে আপনাকে অতিমানব, মহামানব বলে… সামাজিক যোগাযোগের মাধ্যমে অনেক সময় এই যুগের মুক্তিযোদ্ধা বলে ফেলে, এসব কিভাবে নেন?

মাশরাফি: এসব বলা আসলে বোকামি এবং ভীষণ বাড়াবাড়ি। আমি প্রচণ্ড লজ্জা পাই, তার চেয়ে বেশি বিব্রত হই। টিমমেটদের কাছে সবচেয়ে বেশি বিব্রত হই। ওরাও তো আমার মতোই দেশের জন্য নিজেকে উজার করে দিচ্ছে।

বিশেষ করে, ক্রিকেটারদের সঙ্গে মুক্তিযোদ্ধা টানলেই খুব খারাপ লাগে। আগেও অসংখ্যবার বলেছি, আমার কাছে মুক্তিযুদ্ধ সব কিছুর আগে। মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের স্থান সব কিছুর ওপরে। সামান্য ক্রিকেট খেলা নিয়ে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সঙ্গে তুলনা বাতুলতা ছাড়া আর কিছু নয়।

হ্যাঁ, আমাকে যে ভালোবাসে, তাকে আমি মূল্যায়ন করি। কিন্তু ভালোবাসার প্রকাশ বা ভাষা ব্যবহারে পরিমিত হওয়া প্রয়োজন সবার।

আপনার ভেতর কতজন মানুষ বাস করে?

মাশরাফি: আমি সব জায়গায় একই রকম। নরম্যালি আমি খুব বেশি প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখাই না। কেউ চড় দিলেও আমি কিছু করব না। কিন্তু কেবল দু্ই জায়গায় আমি একটু ভিন্ন। আমার মা ও আমার বউ। ওদের সঙ্গে আমি যা কিছু করতে পারি। হয়ত অন্য রাগ ওদের ওপর দিয়ে প্রকাশ করে ফেলি অনেক সময়। ওরা আমার জন্য সেই নির্ভরতার জায়গা।

আপনি বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে সময় কাটাতে, আড্ডা দিতে পছন্দ করেন। আবার প্রচণ্ড ঘরকুনো!

মাশরাফি: বাচ্চা হওয়ার পর বাসা আমাকে বেশি টানে। প্র্যাকটিস শেষেই বাসায় ফিরতে মন চায়। ওদের সঙ্গে সময় কাটাতে ভালো লাগে। এখন বন্ধুদেরই অনেক সময় বাসায় টেনে আনি।

আরও কিছু ব্যাপার আছে। আপনি অনেক প্রাণখোলা, আবার কিছু ব্যাপারে একদম এক রোখা। অনেক ছাড় দেন, আবার অনেক ব্যাপারে নাছোড়বান্দা। ভীষণ আধুনিক, আবার কিছু জায়গায় কুসংস্কারাচ্ছন্ন!

মাশরাফি: কিছু জায়গায় গোঁড়ামি আছে, কখনোই ছাড় দিতে পারি না। হয়ত বুঝতে পারছি আমার ক্ষতি হচ্ছে, তবু গোঁয়ার থাকি। আবার কিছু জায়গায় ছাড় দিয়েই যাচ্ছি। পরিস্থিতি, অবস্থার ওপর নির্ভর করে।

কিছু কুসংস্কার তবু অবাক করে। যেমন, আফগানিস্তান সিরিজের শেষ ম্যাচের পর বললেন, ম্যাচের আগে থেকেই মনে হচ্ছিলো ইনজুরিতে পড়বেন। মুমিনুলকে আপনি বলেন দলের লক্ষ্মী, ও স্কোয়াডে থাকলেই নাকি দল জেতে। কোন হোটেল দলের জন্য বেশি পয়া, এসব ভাবেন। মাঠে আচমকা কাউকে হুট করে বোলিংয়ে আনা বা হুটহাট অস্বাভাবিক কোনো সিদ্ধান্ত …

মাশরাফি: এটা আমার হুটহটাই চলে আসে। এবারের ইনজুরিরটা যেমন, আগের রাতে নামাজ পড়ে বের হয়েছি। হুট করেই মনে হলো, “আজকে প্র্যাকটিসে ওই জিনিসটা ঠিকঠাক করতে পারিনি, ইনজুরিতে পড়ব না তো!” রাতে ঘুমানোর আগে আবার মনে হয়েছে। সকালে আবার মনে হয়েছে। কোনো কারণ ছাড়াই। ম্যাচে গিয়ে ঠিকই হয়ে গেল!

মাঠের সিদ্ধান্তে ক্রিকেটীয় ভাবনাই বেশি থাকে। তার পরও হুটহাট কিছু মনে আসলে করে ফেলি, মনে হয় কাজে দেবে। অনেক সময় হয়ে যায়।

এই ব্যাপারটা আমার মায়েরও আছে। আমার সব ইনজুরির সময় আগে থেকেই আমাকে সাবধান করেছিলেন আম্মা। সকালেই বলতেন, ‘আজকে সাবধানে খেলো’। আমি সতর্ক থাকি। তবু হয়ে যায়।

ড্রেসিং রুমেও আমি হুটহাট অনেক সময় পাশের জনকে বলেছি, এবার মনে হয় আউট হয়ে যাবে। দেখা যায় হয়ে গেছে। এসব আমার হুট করে চলে আসে। জানি না ঠিক কিভাবে, কোত্থেকে আসে।

আমার অবসরটাও হবে হুট করে। একদিন ইচ্ছে হবে, ছেড়ে দেব। বয়ে কয়ে কিছু হবে না, নিশ্চিত থাকতে পারেন।

এখন আপনার হোম সিরিজেও হোটেলে উঠতে ভালো লাগে না…

মাশরাফি: এটা হয়েছে মেয়েটার জন্য। মেয়েটা অদ্ভুত মায়ায় জড়িয়ে রেখেছে। হোটেলে যাব, মেয়েটা গলা জড়িয়ে বলে, ‘আমাকে ছেড়ে যেও না। আমাকে স্কুলে নিয়ে যাও’, বা এরকম কথা, এটার সঙ্গে পেরে উঠিনা। সিরিজের সময় হোটেলে উঠেছি, মেয়েটা স্কুল থেকে সরাসরি হোটেলে চলে আসবে। সুইমিং করবে, আমার সঙ্গে গোসল করবে। কিসের ক্রিকেট, রান বা উইকেট, মেয়ের কাছে জীবনের সবকিছু তুচ্ছ।

সমাজ, রাষ্ট্র, জাতি, দেশ এসব নিয়ে ভাবেন?

মাশরাফি: আলাদা করে গভীরভাবে নয়। তবে অনেক ভাবনা আসে। আজ থেকে ১০-১৫ বছর আগেও যা ছিল, আমাদের জীবনটা এখন তার চেয়ে অনেক যান্ত্রিক, কৃত্রিম ও জটিল হয়ে গেছে। চারপাশে মানুষ ভীষণ অসহিষ্ণু। এত দ্রুত চারপাশ বদলে যাচ্ছে, এসব আমাকে পীড়া দেয়, অস্থির লাগে।

আমরা এখনও অনেক বেশি আন্তরিক একটা জাতি। অতিথিপরায়ণ। কিন্তু নিজেদের জন্যই নিজেরা কেমন ভয়ঙ্কর হয়ে উঠছি। হৃদ্যতার চেয়ে শত্রুতা বাড়ছে দ্রুত। হানাহানি বাড়ছে। মানুষগুলো কেমন বদলে যাচ্ছে।

সিম্পল একটা কথা বলি। এখন লোকে রাস্তাঘাটে দেখা হলেই শুধু সেলফি তুলতে চায়। তুলেই চম্পট, কথাবার্তা নেই। আগে এমনও হয়েছে, রাস্তাঘাট আমি অনেকের সঙ্গে ৫ মিনিট, ১০ মিনিট, ১৫ মিনিট কথা বলেছি দাঁড়িয়ে। আমি কখনোই বিরক্ত হতাম না। এখন ৫ সেকেন্ডে সেলফি তুলে হাওয়া। আমার খুশি হওয়ার কথা, সময় বেঁচে যাচ্ছে। কিন্তু আমার খারাপ লাগে। কারণ আন্তরিকতাটা নাই। আমি তো কথা বলতেই চাই! কুশলাদি জিজ্ঞেস করা, হাসিমুখে কিছু বলা, বুকে জড়িয়ে ধরা, এসব ভালো লাগে। অটোগ্রাফের একটা অন্যরকম আবেদন ছিল। এখন সব কিছু কেমন কৃত্রিম হয়ে গেছে। দ্যাটস নট লাভ, এটা কৃত্রিমতা। আগের সেই আন্তরিকতা আমি খুব মিস করি।

দেশের বাইরে যেতে বরাবরই বিতৃষ্ণা আপনার!

মাশরাফি: উপভোগ করি না। দেশ ছাড়ার কথা ভাবলেই দম বন্ধ হয়ে আসে। এই যে নিউ জিল্যান্ড সফর সামনে, তার আগে অস্ট্রেলিয়ায় ক্যাম্প, এখন থেকেই আমার মন খারাপ। ভাবলে অস্থির লাগে। ওখানে সব গোছানো, আধুনিক জীবন। তবু স্বস্তি পাই না।

দেশের মানুষ, চারপাশের সবকিছু আমাকে স্বস্তির আবহ দেয়। বরাবরই আমার হোমসিকনেস বেশি। আগে নড়াইয়ের বাইরে থাকতে পারতাম না। এখন দেশের বাইরে থাকতে পারি না। আমার দেশের হাজারটা সমস্যা আছে, তবু শ্বাস নিয়ে শান্তি পাই। বাইরে থেকে দেশে ফিরে প্রথম পা দেওয়া মাত্রই মনে হয় শান্তিতে ভরে যায় ভেতরটা। এখানে সব কিছু আমার নিজের!

অনেক দিন বাঁচতে ইচ্ছে করে?

মাশরাফি: করে, অবশ্যই করে। সবারই ইচ্ছা করে বাঁচতে। আমারও করে খুব। আমার লাইফস্টাইল দেখে অনেকের এটা অবিশ্বাস্য মনে হতে পারে। কারণ জীবনভর দুরন্তপনা করেছি, ঝুঁকির সঙ্গে বসবাস। কিন্তু এখন ছেলেমেয়ের দিকে তাকালে মনে হয়, চলতেই থাকুক, অনেক বছর বেঁচে থাকি!

All this sentiment's, all his thoughts somehow sums up the mentality, thought process and experience of a Proud Bangali Post Liberation war generation. The ideal Person to Represent Bangladesh Cricket as Captain had to be him. This is Allah's will. How perfectly fitting!

True, the only thing good things don't last long. He is almost at the end of his career, with an ankle injury. Nobody is a bigger fan of him than me but we need to groom the next captain of Bangladesh. Riyad and Tamim fits my bill. Let them learn from Mashrafe.

whether we like it or not, at best case scenario Mash will not likely last until after 2019...this is the reality, with that many injuries i still see him limping sometimes in the field....dekhle oneek maya lage kante ichcha kore.

We must accept the fact that 99.8% of other cricketers in his place would have given up and retired...he is fighting beyond what his body can endure...he can collapse at any moment(I am not joking).

There are things call matter of one nations own things what other nation will not understand, that what exactly mash to bangladeshi. It is not about cricket stuff it is beyond cricket, if you were bangladeshi you certainly would understand and like ny other bangladwshi you would admire him, love him. I will give one and all an example. Imran Khan who is hailed as one of the greatest Pakistanis of all time, his greatest achievement at the end of his career was winning the 92 world cup and many would argue his legacy would have been quite different had he not won it. Ask any Pakistanis what Imran Khan means to them and they would tell you. Mashrafe is at Imran Khan's level in terms of popularity here.

So in the 92 world cup, what was Imran Khan's contributions anyways? Did he feature anywhere in the top 10 lists of a batsman or a bowler? Answer is quite simply no.

Another question is why was Ana Kournikova more popular than some of the better players at her time like Williams? She obviously looked beautiful, but the point I am making is not always what you achieve on field matters to achieve legendary status. Ana Kournikova was probably a bad example as she is nowhere near legendary but Imran Khan was. You get the point, I am sure you are intelligent.

This is the thing also, Mashrafe can reach even greater heights. He needs to win an ICC tournament. For his legacy's sake. I have always said this, he will be remembered more after he ends his career if he wins an ICC tournament. Any will do, even an asia cup, but a world cup will truly mean he will be forever remembered. I think if he doesn't win it in his lifetime, the fruits he is reaping now will be reaped by someone like Mahmudullah because Bangladesh soon will become one of the best teams, specially at asian conditions and a lot of world cups take place near here.

Mashrafe should now concentrate on his batting and am sure if he does will definitely be a better batsman and this way he can survive in cricketing arena for another 5 to 7 years more and become a batting allrounder instead of a bowling allrounder.

Big Mash is a legend in Bangladesh and for Bangladeshis all over the world. He been a terrific captain in the ODI side since his taken over. He doesnt Play test nor has since for more than 7+years or more.

He's changed BD in many ways, the way BD thinks, mentality. Changed a spin heavy attack into having 4seamers at times and 3pacers in LOI's, most times, now, since he has been captain.

All the players are fully inspired by him and love him as the leader. This much change and success in quick time has never came under any other captain. Since Mash had the captaincy, Bangladesh reached the world cup QF for 2015 also same year after the WC under Mashrafe Bin Mortaza Bangladesh have beaten Pak, Ind, SA, and that too, in such convincing manner. Won the last 6 ODI series.


Let me ask you this? How many injuries Dhoni or Kohli survived?
Flintoff couldn't survive one. But our Tiger Mash has survived more than 7 major injuries, and yet his up and running Striving for success for his beloved country :flag). thats a true passionate, patriotic Tiger!

Even from a cricketing perspective, Mash 's captaincy, tactical Genius(has minor errors but for the most part 8 out of his 10 gambles pay off) and his ability to inspire his teammates to greater heights is so far unparalleled in Bangladesh Cricket History. Plus even in key matches, He takes crucial wickets..Averages and statistics wont tell you that.

Every single Time Bangladesh has Beaten India, Mashrafee had a big hand in it Mashrafee comes from a generation of Cricketers where Most(if not all) Bangladeshi players were not good enough to compete with the very best heck, I don't think most of our players back then would make it to an English club side.. Players like Ashraful(on his rare good days haha), and Mashrafee changed that perception. These guys put Bangladesh on the Cricket map. That's why the massive respect. In addition to the number of injuries this guy had to go through and still come back strong is nothing short of miraculous and testament to the level of character Mashrafee possess.

Only people Who followed Bangladesh closely since 1999 or even before would understand how valuable this man is to our cricketing history.

He is the first Genuine fast bowler Bangladesh produced. Now due to age and injuries he reduced his pace...


Another Example: Mohammad Rafique, He a legend too...by watching guys like Rafique we have so many people saying I want to be a SLA too and win matches for Bangaldesh.

Trent Boult did not get a single game this years IPL. It does not mean anything. The world does not revolve around IPL.

Mash is also the captain of "Comilla Victorians" - the winner of BPL 2015.
