Default Test team for NZ tour

We have 3 Tests in NZ next March. Huge series for us. We came damn close to drawing a game in Wellington and did OK with a half strength side (Mushy, Mominul injured) in Christchurch last time so we really need to compete this time around.

Here's my squad:

1) Tamim
2) Shadman
3) Mushfiq
4) Mominul
5) Mosaddek
6) Shakib
7) Liton/Nurul
8) Miraz
9) Ebadat
10) Jayed
11) Mustafiz

12) Khaled
13) Nayeem
14) Riyad/Taijul

My squad would be

Tamim
Shadman
Mominul
Mushy
Shakib
Riyad
Liton
Miraz
Jayed
Ibadat
Fizz

Extras: Nayeem, Khaled, Rishad

No point bringing back Mosaddek after so long in one of the toughest conditions. If you really want him in the side, you gotta wait for a more ideal opportunity for him. Not performing in 2 tests will get him discarded for long term. Also no point bringing Nurul who can't even score in BCL. I would pick Rishad as we may benefit from a leggie in those conditions. Agree with your seam attack.. rahi-ibadat-fizz combo could be deadly

Rishad is probably too raw. Plus we could use him in the WC as our surprise unscouted weapon. Kinda like Tamim in 2007.

Like your team. Don't see any point taking Taijul to NZ though. I would add Arif as a seam allrounder option.

I wouldn't use an off-spinner in New Zealand and rather use Riyadh as a part-time one. In fact, only taking Shakib as the spinner would be a better option. New Zealand pitches aren't going to help our spinners at all.

1. Tamim
2. Shadman
3. Mominul
4. Shakib
5. Mushfiq
6. Mahmudullah
7. Liton/Nurul
8. Ariful
9. Khaled
10. Mustafizur
11. Abu Jayed

Riyad is rebranding himself. watch out. I think he is a better choice than mini in New zealand.

anyways both should be in the playing 11 imo. the core should be.

tamim, mini, mushi, shakib, Riyad, Miraz.

That gives u 5 spots to play aroudn with - most in bowling. Shadman should most likley feature in all test. So batting for now looks pretty set. For bowling Fizz should also likely feature in all. So technically 3 spots. 2 of which much be bowling. so you have 1 batting spot to give it either liton/mithun/nurul/shoumya/Kayes etc.

I think we should tamper our expectation for the NZ tour. If there's swing in the air, no matter who plays in the XI, failure is almost certain. Our batsmen are very uncertain when the ball is in the channel. While their weakness against the shortball has been addressed to a degree, they still can't play the swinging full ball. Incidentally, Boult and Southee happen to have PhDs in that.

Not sure who was the smartypant that agreed to play three tests against the likes of Southee and Boult, and that too on their home soil. Even on the dust bowls of UAE, Southee and Boult troubled Pak batsmen. Two was more than enough, I would have preferred one match.

It will be another tour to gauge our progress in Test cricket. Draw is becoming increasingly rare in Test cricket and I don't see any drawn match in the forthcoming tour. We still don't have bowlers to take 20 wickets in overseas conditions. Fizz is probably the only pacer who can pick few wickets. Naeem is going to be another wicket taking option alongside Shakib due to his height and the bounce he is extracting from surfaces. Still very early times for him, but I will defnitely give him a game in New Zealand. My preferred XI for first Test is -

1. Tamim
2. Shadman
3. Mominul
4. Shakib
5. Mushfiq
6. Mahmudullah
7. Soumya (as third seamer)/Saiifuddin/Ariful
8. Miraz
9. Naeem
10. Abu Jayed
11. Mustafiz

Picking Liton in place of Naeem is an option, but that will weaken the bowling attack. I would rarher pick a balanced team than packing the XI with batsmen. It has never worked for us and is unlikely to work again.

Let us wet our pants and withdraw from this series.

As we are so confident about our spin attack why not taking it to NZ?

I support this decision 100%, that too right before the world cup in England with similar conditions.

For Inspiration: Bangladesh did negotiate vicious swing against New Zealand at New Zealand in world cup 2015. BC favorite Bashed boy also scored hundred in that match. Another Fact: Bangladesh was the only one of two teams(The other was World Champion Australia who lost by 1 wicket) who was super close to beating NZ in the group stages.

i strongly believe spin is our main strength and NZ is weak against it. so why not to have spin attack and only 2 pacer.or one pacer and add (soumya, ariful or saifuddin for some pace bowling)?

Playing on bouncy and swinging pitches shall provide good practice for our batsmen before WC in England, but there is a chance that losing might dent team spirit before the world cup.

I would prefer some wins before WC, even if that means playing against ZIM on home soil. History proved that such wins help team psyche immensely before an important tournament like WC.

Good XI. I don't know if 3 pacers will be useful. 2 can do the job of 3 I feel like. Reward Nayeem for his good showing, put him in there.

I don't attribute everything to the pitch. Pitches don't score runs, pitches don't get wickets. Players do.
