BDFlag Hall of Fame: Match Thread Openers

Here lie the exalted ones!

Disclaimer: Only the non-minnow bashing are included. Only the first test win vs. West Indies is included because of the iffyness of the second string pack. Couldn't find the Cardiff match. If I am missing someone please u2u me the details. Something tells me admins will promptly make this sticky and lock it to preserve the sanctity. Also if you come across any of the aforementioned immortals, please think twice before you bully them; heck, I think these wise men of BC deserve their own custom titles in addition to being enshrined in this pantheon.

I wish there was a match thread for Bangladesh vs. Pakistan back in 1999... oh wait a minute! BanglaCricket.com didn't even exist!

Can you believe that I've read the whole 27 pages of this match thread while waiting for today's match?

I saw that match on Channel 9 and it was (still is) one of the best days in my life. The amount of joy I felt when Aftab hit that Six of Jason Gillespie's last over....first ball.....I'll never forget that moment in my life.

Thanks MohammedC for bringing that memory back. You made my day.

How far we have come. Can you believe it? A half-day holiday for winning an ODI? This is why Shakib loves county cricket, a win's a win, a loss is a loss. Move on to the next one.

We have come a long way since then. I was actually in Dhaka on vacation when this happened - the joy was spontaneous and so palpable. I know, there will always be an asterisk to this win in the history books, but we are here and belong here.

We were on the road too. Shouting and hugging each other. And it was all road leads to TSC.

TBH, even then I found the whole invocation of 71 to be in poor taste. Beating Pakistan's cricket team does not in anyway compare to the havoc that was wreaked by their industrial-military-jamindar complex on our population and the courage and sacrifice of our freedom fighters cannot be trivialized by comparing it to the elevated performance of 11 cricketers. But with our politicians and emotional people, it is the norm I guess.

But I guess you have to blame the journalist for trying to be overcreative for a sensational heading.
