Tighter Soccer Uniform
LONDON (AP) -- Here's a fashion tip sure to make female soccer players uncomfortable: The sport's chief suggests they slip into something a little tighter on the field.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter said women should consider wearing more revealing uniforms, such as skimpier shorts, to bring more attention to the game. At least one top player called the advice "ridiculous" and "irresponsible."
Blatter said women's soccer needs different sponsors from the men's game and should try to attract fashion and cosmetics companies by featuring "more feminine uniforms."
"Tighter shorts, for example," Blatter told the Swiss newspaper SonntagsBlick. "In volleyball the women also wear other uniforms than the men. Pretty women are playing football today. Excuse me for saying that."

Well now, that didn't take long. In the realm of 'open mouth-insert foot', David Hookes retires, Sepp Blatter takes over without missing a beat...

Yes, it commercially brings attention to women's soccer for all the WRONG reasons! (further perpetuating ridiculous gender myths that thousands of women have worked very hard to abolish)

"I see all around me women trying to look attractive, spending thousands if not millions to have thier bust line increased and face to be beautiful. And for what? If I am not a naive hermit, I suppose they (women) do it only to be found attractive to men."
Do women fashion themselves only to be found attractive to their opposite sex? I thought that it was a very NATURAL instinct of a person, irrespective of sex, to make himself/herself attractive and beautiful to satisfy his/her own aesthetic mind at the first place.
Female desire of making themselves more sexually attractive is a contagion caught from the projection of male LUST. No wonder Mr. Slepp Blatter and those who support him in this context are the typical victims of patriarchal male chauvinism.

You think sexism is natural and so we should not try to abolish it? Well racism is also "natural" (natural selection and all that), so maybe we shouldn't try to eradicate racism either!
It is not a prerequisite for men to look sexy and attractive on the field, so why should it be the case for women? That is what I meant when I said it will attract attention for all the WRONG reasons.

At least they should have a chance to talk their hearts content as they have nothing to show!
.. But I also don't support the cries of not so good looking women who are ashamed of their bodies.
|
What?? You think women who fight for women's rights do so because they are ugly? Now THAT is typical male chauvinism. If this is your attitude then I have nothing more to say and am sorry that I commented in the first place.

I thought the story was someone's idea of a joke at first. I am kind of surprised by the defense. What happened to common sense and decency ?
Sepp should come out and apologize. If anyone needs to see women in tight uniforms, they have plenty other options.

You didn't have to go so far as to delete your previous post. But, the fact that you did shows that you are a class act. Not for a moment did I think you were being a chauvanist. Your body of work on this forum speaks positively, for itself.

It meant to be a sarcastic post on my part as to point out the sheer absurdity of the whole affair of women wearing tighter uniforms.

I see. Well the sarcasm was lost on me because of your previous post agreeing with the dude. Anyhow, since you were joking I apologise and withdraw my accusation.

I don't know why you ladies are complaining (some man? too). I mean if Beckham can be a sex symbol .... I wanna see some shapes of Brandi Chastain. She generated a lot of attention to women soccer after that 99 victory - taking her jersey off. That was awesome. ooo and those volley shots... damn this guy is brilliant!
If Bangladesh is ever in Women WC. I want ban on shorts. Cover as much as possible. Have you seen that girl in Bend it like Beckham... aww disgusting!

I like watching women's voleyball. I'd kill for a girlfriend with that kind of stamina and flexibility. And those fantastic long legs!! Drooool.
Now women footballers are another story. They should stick to decisions like showing off their bra after scoring a goal (like Mia Hamm) or posing completely nude in magazines and sell them (like the Australian women's soccer team). Hey, It's their own choice. Don't mess with a women's liberty to expose herself.

If I remember correctly it wasn't Mia (WC Final). Forgot actual player's name.
