Those are amazing pics Mav. Amazing stuff.

Heres another one of mine. Took it in bangladesh last summer... randomly messed around with it on photoshop.

Its a revised version of a prior one that I posted earlier in thread.

Well I took that a while back, in Bangladesh, when the electricity was out. I wanted to capture the only source of light in the room, with everything blackened out.

Its diff than the version on first page, as I played around with it on photoshop.

if i am not mistaken, you have a sony compact? there should be a mode where you could change the shutter speed. if you are interested, have a go at taking a few pictures of the flame at slower speeds. it might be useful to place the camera on a table and use the self timer feature. a flickering flame shot at anything below 1/4th of a second should create some very interesting results.

Hi puck,
I have a question regarding Black and White photography. If i am taking color pictures in RAW mode and later decide to convert them to B&W, will i lose any information on that image? If i am interested in Black & White pictures, should i use the black and white picture style on my DSLR (i am using Canon XSi)... For post editing, i use Adobe Lightroom 2.4.

raw would always offer you the best possible means of post-processing. to my knowledge, the xsi would only save pictures in jpeg when set to the black and white mode.

lightroom is an excellent workflow software and if you are familiar with channel mixer or saturation tools based in lightroom, the result should be most encouraging.

if you don't want to shoot raw, there is no reason why the black and white mode in any dslr should not offer good quality pictures. how are you visualising the frame? i shot a lot of black and white when starting out because it was easier. are you looking out for scenes of extreme contrast? would you like to post some small samples maybe?

Oo lightroom is nice. I've used it occasionally although its not that useful for me due to the fact that my workflow isn't that big, nor can I shoot in RAW.

akib, before digital took over the world of 35mm photography, post processing would have been done at the dark room. there were enthusiasts who spent hours playing with chemistry. those who did not like to get their hands wet - lets face it, perceptol is not the most fragrant substance ever - could specify to a pro-lab what they wanted. filters were more important in these days and those who did not have access to dark rooms or afford to pro-labs, would spend time in mastering their equipments and still be able to produce stunning images. i tend to see the latter as more of a stage you might be at. not being able to shoot raw is not always a hindrance. raw takes time to transfer to a pc or laptop. it takes time to process. a lot of shooters tend to rely so much on raw and fixing things in photoshop later that there less of an emphasis on learning 'photographic light' or mastering one's camera. don't feel obliged to get another body just for raw shooting. use your existing camera within its limitations and let your imagination flow.

ahmed, the third one down is rather nice. a suggestion regarding your composition in this frame, perhaps the whole of the tree would have given a more complete feel. next time when you are shooting in this light, try a variation with +1 or + 1.5 exposure compensation.

Inani probably has the cleanest, bluest waters of all beaches in Bangladesh. Inani > Teknaf > Cox's Bazar.

In my opinion its much nicer than the main beach of Cox Bazar, since its emptier, and thus cleaner.

Most of my best favourite pics were taken there.

Beautiful place.

Took this one today. Its the park right behind Denver Nature & Science Museum. Scaled the resolution quite a bit (original was 5020x1200).
