Curse of the Golden Flower was excellent. But cant agree with House of Flying Daggers to be better than Hero.... House of Flying Daggers was too stretched and melodramatic, and a little less artistic (but the dance scene with the drums was awesome).

Have you watched Warriors of Heaven and Earth? Slightly different sort of story than the above three.

Haha.. Curse of the Golden Flower was the epitome of melodrama. But I liked it too.

I recently watched Babel on DVD.. it was very very good. Very real about the state of things today, I think. Looking forward to Pan's Labyrinth coming out on DVD too.. anyone seen it?

I'm a big fan of Spaghetti Westerns. My favourite is "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly".

the dvd ripped print is out and downloadable. I absolutely loved it. I generally like watching foreign films, they're so different: the artistry, the plots, the cinematography. The acting is so subtle and understated too compared to Hollywood. Pan's Labyrinth was woven between fantasy and a serious drama so nicely. Highly Recommend it.

I too watched Babel on DVD. Despite a few irrelevant and, frankly, unnecessarily vulgar plot lines, it was a very good movie that shows how the reality of life is often complex, yet at the same time simple. In all cases, it differs from what we see in the media.

REALLY ? ... Dry and refreshing like a nice fume blanc chilled just right.

I like Once Upon A Time In The West also. Unforgiven remains my favorite western.

I haven't watched Warriors of Heaven and Earth yet, but I will now that you mention it. Thanks.

I liked Hero ... the art direction and the sheer scope of the movie was magnificent. Jet Li was awesome to watch as always. That said, I liked Daggers more. I think as an epic love story, it blows Romeo and Juliet out of the water, and Zhang Zyi Yi ... DAMN !!! While we're on the subject, I also loved Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the movie that brought the dynasty-based, Chinese operatic tradition into the spotlight.

Melodrama ? Guys, melodrama when exploring the depths of human emotions, can supercede its own kitsch and become operatic, becoming intrinsic to an opera-based story designed to resonate just as deeply inside ourselves if we're audacious enough to let it. The same goes for Italian operas BTW.

Napoleon Dynamite and Macho Libre are two of the funniest movies I've seen of late ... you can pick 'em up at "Fahim's" among other places.

I'm still fixated on Akira and the original Ghost In A Shell. Keiichi Sugiyama's Agito is the last anime feature I've watched. It was OK.

Akira is one of my all-time favourite animes, Ghost In A Shell (original) too, but haven't seen Agito. You should watch Grave of the Fireflies if you haven't already. Best anime storytelling IMO.

I've seen it. Stunning artwork and great narrative too. How'd you like Ninja Scrolls ?

I think Martin Scorsese did a great job with Departed, but I personally prefer Infernal Affairs and would recommend that any new Departed fans still watch it.

Blood Diamond and Departed are great movies. The ending in the departed was hilarious to me. Blood diamond, the ending was too predictable, but a great movie.

And about animes, watched Naruto till the shippuden series started, watched Bleach. I know kinda childish. Any recommendations anyone. I would prefer something more mature.

I like Bleach too, but holding back on Naruto. Watch Full Metal Alchemist.

Cowboy Bebop is pretty mature methinks.
