Shubho Rahman Khan
A few of you will already know me, the newer ones won't, as I have been away from banglacricket for a while.
I'm 24 years old, born and brought up in Austria (NOT Australia) by Bangladeshi parents. Spent five years in London, UK first studying, then working as a boring, boring auditor. Now work for the UN, but not for long, as I'm moving to Canada to study again.
My connection to cricket? Believe it or not, when they kicked off youth cricket in Austria, I represented my school at the few tournaments that were organized. Indoor, six a side stuff with tennis balls. Things have improved a bit; they even have a national team now, but I'm not in it, so who gives a rat's a**.
Good to see banglacricket continues to grow.
By the way, WisdenVoice, is your esteemed magazine finally toning down the anti-Bangladesh rhetoric? I hope the days of destructive criticism (bashing Bangla for the heck of it) are over.

who was your uncle who kept for azad boys - what year? you mentioned being a fan of nazim shirazi - his brother Kazim was a keeper for Azad Boys in the mid eighties if memory serves me right.
no one mentions old greats such as badshah and yusuf babu - think those players could have done very well in the test scene.
although I must have posted something on an intro before, the update is I live and work in Chicago as a business startup specialist. Have been in the US since mid eighties, am in my mid-30s but act like life is just starting (my growing waistline suggests otherwise). Grew up watching cricket but reallywas only serious about playing soccer.
During my free time I run and coach a youth soccer club - my son plays on it and is maybe a bit younger than james.
Spend an inordinate time on this board because there is little other than cricket that cheers me up about Bangladesh. Despite all the losses, I am glad there is finally something we are doing on the world stage as a nation.

My uncle is Shabu Pathan. Played with Azad Boys in early 70's, then migrated to Toronto. I did watch some of the early BD greats like Yusuf Babu (Heck of a hard-hitting opening bat), Jehangir Shah Badshah (pretty good medium pacer/decent middle order bat). I was also impressed by the play of the Wicket-keeper Shafiqul Hoq Heera, and fast medium Dipu Roy Chowdry. Dipu Chowdry tossed in a rare bouncer at a visiting Deccan (HYdrabad Blues) team caesing them to dust off their helmets. They had not anticipated a BD bowlers capable of generatin g a viscous beaner. It was the small victories we lived for in the early days. They played against the MCC touring teams containing Conrad Hunte/John Hampshire, early SL teams containing Warnapura, Tennekoon, Roy Dias and one or more of the perennial De Silva brothers, and acquitted themselves well enough.
To be fair though, there was no one of Mushrafee or Bashar's class in those days.

My turn! my turn! :)
So finally I get a chance to say something abt myself... (was secretly hopin someone would get this thread back up )
Ok lets see, I am Sami... born and brought up in Dhaka but right now in germany (Note: a country I despise). I am 18 and doing my second year in Uni majoring in Elec Eng and Comp Science...
Well abt cricket... I was more into football till the 1992 cricket WC. My dad wanted me to be more interested in cricket (dunno why though... for some unknown reason, he hates it when I play any sports) so he got me this big poster with all the captains from that tourney... and been hooked to cricket ever since. I was in my school team (dhanmondi tutorial) for the Nirman School tournament in Dhaka and right now play as the opening bowler of my Uni (believe it or not, there is a Cricket League called the North German Cricket League and surprisingly there is an all german cricket team there). Played in a few frindlies and some lame indoor tournaments (6 a side) for my Uni...
I guess thats quite a big intro... but i love to talk abt myself :P

Don\'t know if I introduced myself earlier on this thread but here goes
I'm 22 and currently in my fourth year at university in upstate NY. Born and brought up in Dhaka, I played Nirman for my school side as an opening bowler and number 3 batsman (averaged 87 with the bat ). Attended boarding school in England from 98-00, again representing my school at the Middlesex league. Moved to the states in August of 2000 and haven't played a competetive match since. However, I try to catch as much cricket as possible on tv during my summer and winter breaks in Dhaka. Desperately hoping to find a team to do nets with this winter.

Shouldn't this be pinned to the top, so that new comers can introduce themselves? This should be a forum by it self called "Introduce your selves"

I have made this a top thread.
Shouldn't this be in forget cricket, and stay there on the top permanently?

\"Introduce yourself\"
I don't know if anyone has brought this up but since "Introduce yourself " is turning out to be quite popular, can this be highlighted as an option when new members log in. That is instead of searching after registration they know immediately where it is when they arrive to the site.

Sure possible. But I figure, it makes more sense to put this in forget cricket. After all, that is the chatting zone.
