2-3k for a camera. I can build a fully kitted out server/workstation with that much money.

yeah well my camera purchase is done. I wouldn't have minded shelling out higher prices but it was a one time purchase. Not really into photography. Bought it just to occasionally capture high quality pictures. Camera serves my purpose.
A basic entry level DSLR would have been ok for me too but i knew it would be my only purchase in years to come or even lifetime lol unless i develop crazy passion for it.
Anything that doesn't fit a jeans pocket is a annoying for me.
anyways I am thinking of buying an iphone for the camera now actully.. any other options?

those are for semi pro, enthusiasts. Entry level cameras are cheap. you can get kit with lenses with around 400 to 500 dollars. Lens i bought separately alone cost me 330 usd.
There is also secondary, refurbished market for both camera and lens. Ebay can be a good place. So anyone with photography interest can have all their gears for ~500 starting out, which i think is not a barrier for anyone with access to internet.
Or one can save up and go for glory. Which personally i don't think is necessary - if you become that good, money will come for your next purchase automatically. That's just the laws of the world.
But life is short. Cant' be wasting time.. just gotta do things that u can or Move on or let things go that you can't.
So don't worry about 3k camera, you can do a lot of damage with a 400 dollars refurbished one.

If you are looking for a cell-phone camera, Google Pixel 2 is the way to go IMHO.
Alternatively, the best & smallest pocket camera on the market:
Sony RX 100
Sony RX100 has a three version of it - the RX100 is the cheapest now and you might be able to buy it for $300 or less, the latest version RX100V will cost you about a #1000 though. Awesome picture quality and pocket-ability...

I have canon 80D. So not full frame but still with right lens one can take great pictures.
My problem is I don't like carry heavy stuff. I prefer travelling as light as possible.
That's why cell phone camera is more convenient than one realize.
I am going to few cities of Russia this summer and I am very hesitent to take my camera as it will become a burden for me i think even though I can capture some relatively (for me atleast) great shots with my dslr as compare to a cell phone.
Actually now that I think about it.. I don't like taking pictures at all when travelling...makes me look retarded.

Thanks. I use Canon 24-105mm f/4 L IS. It has good focal length range which works out quite well for my landscapes. The only thing is, low light performances aren’t that great.
I’m like you though, I hate the fact that it’s just not only heavy while travelling but you also have to be weary that you are carrying around an expensive piece of kit so I find myself just using my smartphone now a days.

I think you've got the right idea. Phones have unlimited disruptive potential. Just a question of if and when consumers will buy into it.
So far, people still love their TVs and cameras. I thought projection would replace TVs. Indeed, I think Samsung released a phone in 2012 where you could project the screen on to wall. It seems more convenient, and if the specs, resolution and everything is upto par, then why not. But the idea never caught on.
Similarly, people just might not be comfortable with the idea of trashing their cameras.
Laptop too, is another one. Too clunky, most of them, even the slimmest one.
Eventually, 100 years from now, I think the phone will be a one stop solution for all with holographic projection capabilities.

100 years ? Do u know how much that is when it comes to technology ??
Technology advancement happen in 5 to 10 years increment almost .... previous tech become almost obsolete in 20 years ..
U can not even fathom what's gonna happen in 100 years in terms of technological advancement

I am using a Nikon D7200 with Tokina 11-16mm lens for the landscape shots and Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 AF-D for the aviation shots. For editing, there is no alternative for Adobe Lightroom.
Cant give much tips as I am learning something everyday myself. But I can tell you this, to be a good photographer, you have to click! Click as much as u can... play around with the settings and try different angles, compositions. Also the most important thing is, start loving your own shots! The day you love your own shots, your shots will automatically get better! That confidence will reflect in those compositions.
