Favourite scenes from any 70's BD Bangla black & white movies...

1. Car accident: Always big sounds of metal hitting metal, pots and pans in the background, then camera spins looking upward toward the sky and a bunch of big trees (shot from Indira Road or Baily Road), then focus on an empty street and roll one loose stray wheel, even better yet, no wheel, just a stray tire rolling down the street, and then a perfectly healthy man or a woman on the street moaning with a little bitty liquid Khejurer gur on the forehead!!!
HHS. Javed vai Dhallywood needs you as a director. You'll bring the oscar home.

Thank you dear Habib bhai!

Hahahah...okay if you liked that here are a few more....

Most mamorable scenes from some 70's BD Bangla black & white movies...Cont'd

2. Nartaki (Dancer) Scene With Super Villain Jhoshim At His Hangout: After the end of the day and after a succesful robbery and coming back to the Astana (Hideout/Cave) lampot villain Jhoshim (again imagine our Rabz bhai) is sitting among his goons under a full moon night semi-outdoor location and there is a big fire in the middle and all the goons and Jhoshim are drinking dark liquid(imagine Tari, Chorosh) from large bottles and acting extremely drunk rolling on the ground on a big carpet. and while doing this Jhoshim chews on a massive roasted goat leg and spits some drinks as he is completely out of his mind drunk by now and all of a sudden the music starts and he forces the recently kidnapped sister of the Hero of the movie (not the heroine) to dance and says, "Hoohoohahahah...Nacho Shundori nacho!.... Hoohoohahahah...Palabe kothai shundori?" Meek voice from the girl, "Shaitan, tui amake chere de bolchi boodmais!"

The 3rd video song is a very famous and super Bangali Modern (Early Adhunik) song.

Is that Abdullah Al-Mamun? The bekar man walking in Moteejheel.

Babita is a very beautiful lady, Gillian Anderson has some similarity to Babita's look and sense of femininity while being very strong, always in control and well-composed personality.

This song's lines are very memorable...

"Chokh Mele Je Dekhe Na
Kacher Dewal Bhange Naa
Prithiba Te Je Koto Kothin
Shey Bujhete Parey Naa....

Shomoyer Kache Shobai Haar Mene Jai
Aghate Aghate Bartho Ahsate Shopno Harai

Pothey Je Namey Naa
Protibaad Korey Naa
Oniomer Niom Sheto Bhangte Parey Naa

Jibon Maney Jontrona
Noi To Fuler Bichana.."....Ohha

The academy is the only such agency on the planet that gives out self-promoting awards with such hoopla. It is the equivalent of you grading your own final exam papers. Here's another one for you: I think Avatar is the crappiest of crappy movies that was ever made, seriously. The storyline is plagiarized from older movies, and is completely predictable from the word go. It was floated on high publicity, 3d and special effects.

Just watch a few Mumbai features from the 80s & 90s. You should be able to scrape together a Kutta movie just from those. Some scenes you won't even have to re-shoot. Just cut 'n paste.....

Hmm. Except the second & the third the list is not that good. You should have Omor Sani & Rubel(Kungfu master) instead of Hrithik & Jit respectively.

billah bhaia:

Umm....isn't all institution guilty of the same crime? So you are saying if Princeton gives out a phD with "hoopla" it's because they don't have smattering of idea about the person's ability but instead more interested in promoting it's own brand name to garner multi-million dollar academic profit each year? Yeah the world is a very bad place isn't it?

And not everyone cheats when grading his own test. I must say you have a very pessimistic view of humanity. And LMAO @ the "kutta" vitriol making it all personal. And aren't all movies script rehashing of some old ones? It's the delivery that makes it different. Shakespeare's plots are nothing original but it's the wordplays and the packaging that makes the bard immortal. So your argument that because it does a "cut and paste" job - you have yet to cite specific examples of "80s & 90s" mumbai films from which it borrows scenes- falls flat on it's face right there. Anyways, since you have yet to give any constructive criticism instead of your own opinionated vitriol against the film I will give my share why the movie is great.

First of all I didn't have to wait for it to get into imdb's #107 of top 250 movies and 8 Oscars - okay I forgot it may go over some people's head who don't recognize international recognition of institutions who may have a scintilla of opinion after watching scores of film each year of every genre of many nations judging, critiquing, deconstructing, dissecting them after studying years in college but hey that shouldn't matter- for me to like this film.

I watched it in a small theater before it even came out to the big ones and it gained momentum and right after watching it I LOVED it and knew it was Oscar material if not one the greatest film.

Why did I enjoy it so much? Yes it does project the archetypal psyche of people doing 9 to 5 making it big one day from rags to riches. That was the main theme but it's the how-part that intrigued me. How he did it or how it was portrayed was entirely unconventional and original in it's formulation. You seem to forget a minor fact that in the 80s and 90s they didn't have Who wants to be millionaire? which was the entire skeletal constraint that held the movie together. Now having talked to my cousins I know many reasons why many people in Bangladesh didn't like it was because of the whole "destiny" part which seems to make it "cheesy" and "unrealstic"; of course, having known my cousins personally I didn't pursue the argument given their IQ level is below women's range....okay I kid about the stereotype.

But since when did so-called "realism" became a hindrance to the success of a film. Yeah, I can see how most of live in your fantasy world of goblins and Hogwarts with a man in black hood and costume swinging light saber coming and sweeping you off the floor, but the fact that this movie had the theme of "everything happens for a reason" clashes with someone's OWN personal agenda or philosophy makes it a bad film seems to me rather weak argument. Even if someone doesn't believe in things like synchronicity and alignment of certain events in specific order, the nested layers of plots makes up for it. It's same as hating on Good Will Hunting simply because one believes photographic memory is impossible and thus the movie can never be "true". Sigh. It's after all a movie, which by very nature, creates suspension of disbelief with fairy tale what-if fringe.

I could go on and on but then again I just ate beef curry and rice and I am hungry and don't want to waste my energy talking to thin air if there is no interaction. Look forward to your reply....hopefully this time it will be a constructive one.

Another great film that is recommended by many but didn't get time to watch it was Shawshank Redemption.
