That country is a screwed up bad. I hope the Burmese leader's astrologer tells him that him giving up his power will spare him from prostrate cancer. Then the country can rid of the disease called "military goverment".

The point of this thread is not point fingers on what is wrong with Myanmar but what they are doing right.
Old cities can't take the over crowded population. The polution, the congestion, the agitation grows. how long the traffic jams are in rush hours?? have you gone to buriganga in recent times. Or shodor ghat. check out the polution there. With student politics, they can cripple BD's govt. just by blocking some nearby roads.
Shafin has a good proposal which many of us thought would be an excellent idea long time back.

Bhai, the reason why they move is not because of population congestion but because some fortune teller told him so. And because of the paranoia that US might one day attack them. That leader of Burma relies heavily on fortune tellers and even changed the direction of traffics one of the fortune tellers advised him so.
In Australia, Canberra is the capital but everyone crowds around Sydney, Melbourne. Same in New Zealand where more people live in Auckland than Wellington. Moving capital is merely moving government headquarters. Rest stays as it is.

Not going much into Myanmar's domestic politics..
i think its time for your country too..to have a newly build capital, like Canberra or Washington DC.
Dhaka has gone overly overly extreme populated..and there is absolutely no place for one single person left.
The city is a mess. Pollution, Congestion... everything on a disaster scale...
Only problem is we dont hv any space to build a "new city"....
Also, our parliament house is our pride...
wouldnt hv a new one over the great old building...

Alien bhai,
I understand your point. may the burmeses leader did it bacause of the fortune teller or because of the fear of an US attack. That is their business and I don't care. I like the affect of change, the cause serves me no purpose. The suggestion from Shafin still stands good for BD. A city with widen road and A class public transportation system (subway) can avoid the million richkhaw traffic jam. People would maintain traffic law for a change. less polution for everyone.

We may just move the secretariet buildings. All govt buildings except the parlament. That itself would move many banks and companies. We have no space to grow in Dhaka itself. And the population growth will not slow down for sure in near future. Savar, Gazipur or even beyond. It will be billions of dollar projects but feasible and timely. The vacant places can be demolished and be used for reacreational centers, parks, sports complexes, widening roads etc.
This has additional benefits. Political goons (so called students) can't create chaos and stop the govt activities that easy. They have to move out of town to do any type of demonstration. The city people can live in peace.
