Default Even Athers is having to acknowledge our rising youths :)

Though he starts with the customary bashing or bashar's boy's, Michael Atherton shows his pragmatic side by admitting that BD will be a force in the, hopefully, not too distant future:

Quote:
H is for Habibul Bashir and hapless, which is exactly what Bangladesh were in England. It is easy to forget that a series against Bangladesh was the aperitif for the Ashes, as the cricket was hopelessly one-sided and uncompetitive. It is another black mark for the ICC, who promoted Bangladesh to full Test match status far too soon. In time, though, Bangladesh are likely to be a force in world cricket, such is the passion for cricket in that country. In the last year they've beaten both England and Australia Under 19s. Oh, nearly forgot, they beat Australia in a one-day international in June as well.

and a black mark to Mr. Atherton for failing to even correctly spell the name of the guy he is bashing. its Bashar douchebag...not Bashir.

I can do very well without such a backhanded compliment from anyone. thank you.

aah but I'm not even focusing on the backhandedness ... it's the fact that those Telegraphist conservatives are having to concede any +ves about us at all that gives me glee. BTW, that reminds me - where the dickens is Khan shaheb?

I hardly call that acknowledgement, he said we beat both Australia and England under 19's but not HOW BADLY; we whitewashed both teams. Although coming from an a****** like Athers it's a big deal.

just wondering if he's aware of the fact that we kicked the A** of England U19 just a few days ago. 'whitewash' is not perfect, i guess we've to look for some new word for such humiliation.
how about 'GU WASH'

... and i also thot we're talking about Athar Ali.

Athers is short for Atherton. And our guy's name is AtAhAr. Why would folks mix those two up? And there is the context issue as well: why would AtAhAr say something +ve about BD cricket grudgingly, as the header implies?

Yes, I'm filling particularly curmudgeonly - being falsely accused of pedophilia on the basis of my avatar will do that!

So razab, suppose we call you raz from now on.... would that be obvious that we are not talking about Raj - co-owner of BC? hh huh huh? yeah thought so.!!

Razab bhai... kichu mone koren na bhai.
Actually amader Athar er name-spelling o 'Athar' and not 'Atahar'.

And because the thread-title makes it sound like him... it also shocks a little bit as I also thought "Why is Athar getting negative all of a sudden?!"

Anyway.. about the topic: I am pretty sure that these bashings from the english and some other presses will keep going on untill our national team will have beaten most, if not all of the test nations for atleast 2/3 times. Untill then, I guess we have to take many such badmouthing from many sources. The world has never been fair to newcomers... and will not be either.

I guess we just have to grow a very thick skin untill things get very well for us.

shouldn't athers be happy that we sent the aussies off crying rather than criticizing our performance in the test series?

Guys, I wasn't ticked off at you lot
Orphy - boro bor words keno use kori? To quote Mick Jagger, "because I can"
Ahmed, isn't Ather a derivation of something like Ut-Taher? At any rate, I stand corrected about his name's Bangladeshi spelling

atherton's been called "athers" for a long long time (even back in his playing days); anyways, the first name that came to my mind when i saw the title was his, and not our Atahar's

yeah, so oitai - nengtu kore rastay chere dawar poro jodi boro boro kotha bole (and it was our second string U-19 team), tahole r ki kora. we can only laugh at him

hey - you can borrow my 5th grade dictionary. :bald:

Just wondering, were the English media and players this condescending and backhanded with their compliments when they were at the lower end of the rankings?

(Since we are having a vote about this - I thought the lead post was about Atherton)

i think it shows a bit of english character. you have to beat them to get acknowledged. bd did beat australia but not england. england thrashed bd in all the matches in natwest and we all know about test series.
comments by atherton will probably be echoed by all england players.

bd have to perform consistently. otherwise they have to stop understanding english:P

R is for reverse swing. I know Australia is culturally backward but it was odd that their cricket team seemed clueless about a phenomenon that is at least two decades old. England's mastery of reverse swing was another crucial plank in their Ashes victory.
Hahaha two decades? Weren't the Imrans and Waqars called cheats when they used Reverse Swing against them in the early 90s?

This is what I understand from this thread:

English are not as passionate as Bangladeshis regarding Cricket.

Their u-19 team'er "bou pitanor jontro" dekha jachhey. (bd, sl -19 team oder ulongo korey disay)

Now, post of month?? hehehe!!!
