I am not sure how good Akram would be as a head coach since the question has been raised. However, I see him more of a bowling coach and that on a consultancy basis which BCB is planning on utilizing him as. But one must wonder how much of a difference this would make since it's a last minute fix-up......almost like "porikkhar aager raat" syndrome of students. Besides, our pacers that are physically and mentally inferior to the rest of the world may find it hard to muster his tips in such short notice.

Once again a jora tali solution by BCB.......better than nothing I guess.

There's not much he can change in terms of the bowlers technique. So he's going to pass some words of wisdom to our players as his service. Sounds like a bowler-whisperer.

One thing is clear, we're never happy with whatever coaches us.
Give him a shot and let's see what he can bring.
No matter who we get, after a loss we will be asking for coach's head anyway and I know we're bound to win against a strong team and lose to a weaker team.

I feel that the presence of these players (ex) is just as good as a coach who is as timid as Shane is. Current players can learn a lot from wasim.

I ve actually mentioned the impact of Vaas a couple of posts before. But the key difference is Vaas works on a day to day basis. He works with youngsters, national team level bowlers. He has the time to actually work on the nuts and bolts. I dont know the truth in the Wasim Akram rumor, but its hard for someone to come in last minute and make a change. I hope BCB looks at a more developmental approach than a quick fix one.

yes, same can be said for the aussie pacers with craig mcdermott and mitchell johnson has been working closely on a regular basis with dennis lillee and look at how much better and more more accurate he is these days. wasim i'm sure has a lot to pass on and he could do it if given enough time.

BCB should stop with this stupidity. Short coaching stints before a tournament is no good. Get a permanent coach or just say that you don't have the cash to hire one on a permanent basis because you guys are all busy filling up.

I think the obstacle which is preventing BCB from hiring a permanent bowling coach is the thought they have Shane Jurgensen. BCB will probably say "Why do we need to spend money on another bowling coach when we have Shane."

I doubt it will have any impact at all. Its just wastage of time and money.

An Ex player like him will never go for full-time engagement, it requires commitment and hard work, and then if he fails, his market value decreases. With whatever he is doing right now is perfect from every sense: a) getting good pocket money by doing bit-and-pieces, if it works he will become an instant success without much risk or hard work, and if it fails, oh well no big deal, nobody will blame him.

What our bowlers need is a good low profile coach who will work day-in day-out for year long.

This is just so Papon can say "I did what I could - I appointed even the great Wasim Akram" when the Afghan and Nepali openers treat our pacers like buffet. I'm not convinced of Akram's bonafides as a coach - he was full-time at KKR and their pacers never impressed me. If you are already a decent fast bowler I think his observations re: keeping ball shine or how to attack a batter or set field would work.

Our pacers are no-where there. Even a veteran like Mashrafi or Rubel cannot execute yorkers consistently. Much as he is maligned, and much as he is prone to self-aggrandizement, I daresay a more hands-on coach such as Ian Pont would have been a much better choice. For one he is very familiar with most of our pacers and our infrastructure, so minimal learning curve. Two, he does think long and hard about technical issues such as run-up and plant feet, etc. You hear Akram's philosophy and he'll say, go out and bowl and bowl to strengthen your muscles and actions: i.e. very intuitive. Amader bowler der intuition guides them towards daal bhaat.

I feel this is not going to end well. Asian coaches as head coaches are not popular.

Someone needs to come into the team for a long period of time and work on the players basics again.

We defo need a change in coach however Akram isnt the right choice for the long run.
