Going to BD after 12 years, what to expect?
Sooooo. I am going to BD after ~12 years (before WC, yay!, but date is not fixed yet), I am likely to be staying there for at least 10-12 months. What changes should I expect for someone who has been away for so long? What should I be mentally prepared for, etc etc.
Any first hand experiences?

Be prepared for traffic.
Other than that, I was very pleasantly surprised by all the changes and improvements. And that was after 10 years in my case (last Feb).
I was blown away by the can-do spirit and entrepreneurial attitude that thrives inspite of our governments.
And the quality and variety of restaurants - a 1000000% better

Thats one of the reasons I am going for such a long stay. I apparently have a 40% stake on a very profitable family business that I never worked on in my life. Brother is burned out, he is asking for me to help take-off some pressure.
I am more concerned with having some type of decent and reliable internet connection and how to get my electronics work on BD power system. I suppose I should get some kind of adapter?
One of my long time friend happens to work/own an internet company, but I am not sure they provide services near where I will be staying. I probably should ask him.

I am not much of a people person, but sure, why not? :) Maybe we can get together and watch games? Let me get confirmation on my departure date, then we can make some plans.

Crazy motherf***** traffic jam and kids around Westin at 1am last night. My buddy and I went to Gulshan restora for cha after taking gas, and its crowded as hell. Corporate types driving their big cars, kids in flashy BMW and Acura RSX all there just to hang around and party!
3 years in BD, and I still got a culture shock. Road 11 in Banani has these two "lounges", and coming back home I see from the street one of em going off in strobe lighting. Dhaka's way too shallow & pretentious for me. Parties every weekend at Amazon Club, Radisson, Westin for which you pay $50-$100 cover - f*** that sh*t! I dont want to pay Tk.900 for a bottle of corona that I can buy for Tk.140 legitimately!

This is probably going to be the hardest for me to adjust to. As much as I love my family, I also know they are a product of their environment and are shallow and pretentious. Personally, I feel that they can be whatever they want as long as it doesn't affect me personally. I don't know how long I can keep my sanity and shut up without pointing out their pretentiousness or how long I can keep my individuality without being a shallow and pretentious person myself.
I feel a public blog is in order to highlight my experience in BD for 1 year (chances are I will have to stay longer than that), so that I can look back at my own thoughts from one year ago and see how much I changed.

Keep an open mind, expect the unexpected.
After the initial phase, you'd do great.

I will be staying in New DOHS. The office is also close to house so I probably won't have to travel a lot.
Never been to New DOHS though so not much to compare to.
