No Election in 18 months!!

Quote:
Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda has said the Election Commission will need one and a half years to make a new electoral roll with photographs. And there will be no local or national elections before the voter list is prepared, he said at a press conference Thursday. "A consultative team will propose in six months' time to make a voter list with pictures. Officials need another 12 months for house-to-house visits to make the list. So the EC needs at least 18 months," he said.

Alhamdulillah. Good news everywhere. First Bangladesh beats NZ, Then India then student politics gets banned and now no election for 18 months.

This is too good. I have to pray my 2 rakat nafal namaj for this.

I know people will complain about demise of democracy and fear of military takeover. But based on what I have seen in last few years(non stop agitation, killing, breaking factories, burning houses etc).. I think this is GREAT!!

I'm assuming by biased you are referring to the love for democracy and hatred for army rule. If that is the case, yes, we should realize that this is a process of reform. We will only be able to evaluate what happened during this phase when we take a step back and look at the whole thing. That may not happen before 10 years. If it's shown as a success at that time, I have no complaint about it.

Biased meaning anyone who thinks democratic government by Khaleda or Hasina is better than this caretaker government.

My only complaint is why they didn't start this on Nov-Dec 2006 when i was visiting? Could have enjoyed a little more.

For that reason only,

Now after 12 months get an extension of 12 more months. That way they can make sure no BNP or AL would not be participating in the election. And my next visit is peaceful.

This is certainly good, declaring the exact time frame would have been better.

If current CTG (or army) requires another 2-3 years to clear up the litters, nothing is there to complain.

I'm absolutely loving this. This is a good break for Bangladesh from violence, corruption and dirty politics.

18 months! I like it. I would say if we look to have elections in 2 years we should be fine...hopefully...the corrupt ones can be put behind the bars for a long time...and the country would have gotten so used to doing business the right and honest way they would more or less stick with it!

our populace like many others aren't really capable of handling democracy as has been presented to us. so i disagree with whoever says democracy is and was and will be the best method ever to govern peoples. no ref. to time, place, conditions, environment etc makes me wonder if that's applicable to our country.

it is indeed a good news for someone who's in touch with bd affairs, but you may see eu and other observers crying foul over lack of democracy blah blah blah.. well i'd like to show my middle finger to them, and tell 'em we're better off in this than we ever were under those 2 biatches

after 18 month, we will realize that there will be no election the next 18 years too. who needs election anyway? stop spending all the money to make voter ID, get rid of the election commission we can save all that money for some better use. See the country is enjoying glory days without election and any formal govt, do we really need a formal govt.? election? in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is better with a caretaker govt. than having elected members of dhaner shish and nouka and the rest. By the way this guy Moen acknowledges Sheikh Mujib as the 'Father of Nation' of Bangladesh, and to my knowledge Sheikh Mujib is 'Father of Nation' only in the eyes of Awami Leaguer and nobody else, to this date this title is debatable as much as Ziaur Rahman being called 'Shadhinotar Ghoshok' which Awami Leaguers do not accept.

I am not quite happy because they should have done this announcement before Mrs. Beautines opened her mouth! Even this 18 months term, may need to extend few more months at the end! and that is always understandable depends on their working progress. So why did they took so long to announce an approximate time frame all these days? Especially not until Mrs. Beautines jumps in?

May be that Mr. Moeen comment " don't want to go back ..." messed up the situation, hence comes Mrs. Beautines in the scene, and rush announcement following day I guess.

I just hope after this 3 years, we have 2 competent, clean and strong leaders as option to choose from. Not these 2 ugly witches.

Joi Bangladesh, Joi Caretaker Government.
